Bui Simon is one of the most popular and richest Pageant Contestant who was born on February 7, 1969 in Bangkok, Thailand. She married Herbert Simon in 2002. He is an American businessman and the owner of the Indiana Pacers basketball club and Simon Property Group.
She was appointed United Nations Goodwill Ambassador to Thailand in 1989 by Air Chief Marshal SiddhiSavetsila (Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand). She addressed the UN General Assembly regarding the Convention on the Rights of the Child as Goodwill Ambassador. Pepperdine University awarded her a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
Simon, now 20, was crowned Miss Universe 1988 by Cecilia Bolocco, the outgoing titleholder. This was in Taipei (Taipei, Republic of China), May 24, 1988. After Apasra Hungsakula, who won Miss Universe 1965, she was the second Thai woman to be awarded the title. She was fourth in the semi-finals, just behind Korea, the Dominican Republic and the United States. Interview score 9.730, swimsuit score 9.684 and evening-gown score 9.752 were her scores. Simon was the first woman to win the Miss Universe and Best National Costume awards in one pageant. Simon was 5’8″ and weighed 114 lbs at the time of Miss Universe 1988. Simon, who had been Miss Universe 1988 for a year, gave a farewell speech and was then crowned Miss Universe 1989 by Angela Visser, Netherlands. The ceremony took place in Cancun Mexico.

She received a second Royal Decoration in 2001, Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand.
