In 2008, Rasmus was a non-roster invitee to the Cardinals in spring training to try and claim a regular spot in the lineup after the Cardinals traded Jim Edmonds on December 15, 2007. On March 17, 2008, the Cardinals assigned Rasmus to the Memphis Redbirds of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. In 90 games for Memphis, he batted .251 with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs.
