Danny Nelissen is one of the most popular and richest Sport Cyclist who was born on November 10, 1970 in Sittard, Limburg, Netherlands. Daniel (“Danny”) Wilhelmus Maria Nelissen (born 10 November 1970 in Sittard, Netherlands) is a Dutch former professional road cycling racer, and a former sports commentator for Eurosport. He was the winner of the amateur world championship in 1995 and was named the Dutch Sportsman of the Year. The nephew was the cycling commentator Jean Nelissen.
The next year in Colombia He won the world amateur championship. He was the only amateur world champion. This was despite the UCI was able to replace the event with a youth event in 1996. The victory led to Nelissen being selected as the the 1995 Dutch Sportsman of the year. According to Nelissen’s account using the power meter was crucial to his success and he said that he was among those cyclists “(who) had them and knew what they could do” in the era of his time along with Greg LeMond and Jonathan Vaughters. The three riders all had with the same trainer, Adrie Van Diemen. He was prepared for the race by taking on the toughest climb of the circuit in various methods to figure out the strategy that would allow him to climb in the fastest time, before settling on doing it at an even pace. During the race, he used this strategy to catch up with other competitors in the winning break following dropping them from the top on the hill. He took his break less than one lap from the finish by launching himself on the descent before going solo until the end.
He joined the Rabobank team for two years under the direction of Jan Raas. In 1996, during the Tour de France, he was wearing the polka dot jersey of the mountain classification for a few days. Prior to 1998, he joined his Danish Team Home – Jack & Jones. Team Home – Jack & Jones (later known as Team CSC).
