Derrick Dockery Biography
Derrick Dockery is one of the most popular and richest American Football Player who was born on September 7, 1980 in Dallas, Texas, United States. Dockery was chosen at the end of the third selection (81st overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. He started his first season as a back-up at various positions on the offensive line which included right tackle and left guard. He was added to the lineup for week 4 in the game against New England Patriots at left guard, marking his first NFL appearance.
On March 2, 2007, the Buffalo Bills signed Dockery to a 7-year, $49 million contract with $18 million signing bonus, the third largest in NFL history at his position. He was a two-year starter at left guard, before being released in a salary-cap move on February 26, 2009.
On February 27, 2009, Dockery re-signed with the Washington Redskins to a 5-year, $26.5 million contract. He started 16 games at left guard, replacing free agent Pete Kendall. In 2010, he had a streak of 116 straight games played ended, when he was declared inactive in Week 5, after struggling playing in new head coach Mike Shanahan zone blocking scheme. He injured his left knee against the Tennessee Titans. He was released on March 1, 2011.
He was instrumental in paving the way for an offense of the Longhorns which produced an average of 38.6 scores per contest. The year 2001 was the first time he was a part of the team in the entire 13 games that included the Holiday Bowl, and started nine games at both guard positions as well as playing at the tackle. The line’s play was instrumental in the Longhorns being the top team in their team in the Big 12 Conference with 39.2 points per game (sixth in the NCAA) and an average of 162.3 yards of rushing, 250.3 passing, and 412.6 total yards per game. As a senior in 2002 Dockery was in the starting lineup for every game with seven starting at right guard, and the other six games at right tackle.
Dockery was a student at in the University of Texas at Austin and was a member of Mack Brown’s Texas Longhorns football team from 1999 until 2002. When he was a freshman in 1999 the team was his backup guard, and played throughout the 14 games, which included the Cotton Bowl Classic, at both guard spots as well as in special team. The year 2000 was the first time Dockery was a part of all twelve games including in the Holiday Bowl.
He would go on to start the final 13 games of the regular season at left guard. In 2004, Started all 16 games at left guard for the Redskins, teaming with left tackle Chris Samuels to form a solid tandem on the left side of the offensive line. He finished the season with 29 consecutive starts at left guard, even though he is one of the league leaders in false starts.

On September 4, 2011, Dockery was signed by the Dallas Cowboys. He started in the second game against the San Francisco 49ers in place of an injured Bill Nagy, but suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament and a tibial plateau fracture. He recovered in week 8 to replace an injured Montrae Holland as a backup guard for the rest of the season. On August 3, 2012, he was re-signed to be the backup guard to Mackenzy Bernadeau. He wasn’t re-signed after the season.
