In the year 2010, Garcia was a part of the sprint track World Cup team, won the national title. He was 14th at the 2010 Olympic Trials. Garcia took home the national title for the second time in 2011, before he switched into long-track speed skating. Garcia was selected for his way onto the World Cup team in 2012 as well as the World Championships in 2013. In the 2014 Olympic Trials, Garcia appeared to be in the running for an Olympic team during the 500-meter run but was later disqualified. time disallowed because of his inability to wear an additional timing device. The next day, Garcia was selected for the Olympic team after finishing fourth in the 1000-meter race.

That’s something nobody can take away from me,” he added. Shani Davis, who claimed the fourth spot after Garcia’s disqualification remarked “I was really pulling for Garcia to pull through and make the spot, even if it knocked me off the team … I want the best skaters to go.”
