Joy Emodi is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 23, 1955 in Anambra State, Nigeria. Following her re-election in April 2007 Emodi was appointed the Chair of the Senate Committee on Education, and was appointed to a seat on the Committees on Solid Minerals, Establishment and Public Service, and Petroleum Resources (Down Stream Sector). In a mid-term assessment of Senators in May 2009 This Day Newspapers noted that she was the sponsor of an initiative called the National Ethics Curriculum Administration (NIEPA) as well as co-sponsored 13 motions. She chaired the Education committee. The second time she was elected, her election was canceled and Igbeke was declared as the winner on the 25th of March 2010. The Senate was delayed, but it was directed to swear-in Igbeke in May of 2010.
Emodi was the winner of his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary for the elections on April 12, 2003 in the Senatorial Anambra North area and was declared the winner on April 16, 2003. Then, a few days later the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) overturned the decision declaring Emmanuel Anosike as the winner. INEC had previously declared Anosike to the position of winner in the Anambra East/West Federal Constituency within the House of Representatives. After a series of appeals 21 January 2004 the Election Petition Tribunal declared that Emodi was a legitimately elected candidate with no further appeals. she was elected to the Senate in February 2005. She was named as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, as well as a member of committees that deal with Senate Services, Communications, Federal Capital Territory, Housing, Privatization, Sports and Women Affairs & Youth Development.
Emodi is an educator at the Anambra State Schools Board (1983-1986) Then Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Development Authority (1994-1995). In 1995, she was the representative of Nigeria on the Third African-American Summit in Senegal as well as at the World Women Conference in Beijing China. In 1995, she was elected to the 1994/95 Constitutional Conference. Her election was as National Vice chairman (1994) as well as National Legal Counselor (1996) to the Congress for National Consensus (CNC) party under the presidency by General Sani Abacha.
