After graduating from high school, she enrolled at California State University, Fullerton and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in the field of history in 1987. Following her decision to pursue holy orders her and their husband Michael Reeves, went to New Zealand because she could study theology located at St John’s College, Auckland as well as go to his work, which required many trips across Western Pacific. In 1994, she completed her studies at St John’s and received the equivalent of the American Master of Divinity degree.

The 16th of June, 2007 the Diocese of El Camino Real at convention in Monterey named Mary Gray-Reeves their third bishop. The bishop was ordained on the 10th of November, 2007.
