Nancy Cantor Biography

Nancy Cantor is one of the most popular and richest Psychologist who was born on February 4, 1952 in New York, United States. Cantor confronted police and was videotaped arguing with them during a minor Rutgers Newark traffic accident investigation. It involved her driver’s vehicle and a Rutgers University Police car. The news media reported the confrontation in which Cantor tried to take down the police. Online, the police video of the incident went viral after Cantor’s outbursts shouting “If I miss mine plane, you guys are in big trouble!” and “I’m your chancellor!” The public was immediately drawn to the story. Her staff member, who was on the scene at the time, was captured saying: “Take her picture and let him go. Would you do the same if she were the president of the United States. You wouldn’t. However, the officers present at the scene remained passive and said that Cantor could not leave until they had collected all details and obtained approval from their supervisor.

Cantor apologized for her conduct with campus police on June 11, 2019, after she allegedly became aware of the video. Cantor wrote an apology letter expressing her deep regret for how she reacted. “I am aware that I wasn’t my best self this morning. I have great respect and admiration for RUPD officers and am grateful for their work every day to keep our community safe and secure. Rutgers Senior Vice President Peter McDonough issued a statement, “The chancellor watched the video and apologized. All involved accepted her apology.” “There is really nothing to add.” Rutgers-Newark Police Chief Carmelo Huertas stated that Cantor’s apology was accepted by the campus police.

Chancellor Cantor is a past chair of American Institutes for Research and the New York Academy of Sciences. She also served as the chair of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and chair of American Council on Education (ACE) in 2006. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo appointed her to the post of co-chair of Central New York Regional Economic Development Council.

Cantor is widely recognized for helping forge a new understanding of the role of universities in society that re-emphasizes their public mission. She is responsible for the development of Syracuse University’s vision, Scholarship in Action, emphasizing the role of the university as a public good. The Connective Corridor was the physical part of Scholarship in Action that aimed to bridge gaps between a wealthy university and a surrounding struggling city. A central aspect of the pursuit of this vision is cross-sector collaboration in the City of Syracuse that has won acclaim locally and nationally. This includes the university’s having been named among the first institutions to earn the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s classification as a university committed to Community Engagement, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s having granted Cantor the 2008 Carnegie Corporation Academic Leadership Award. Scholarship in Action was both popular and divisive at the same time.
