He is a part of the Austrian People’s Party (OVP) that is in turn affiliated in the European People’s Party.
Karas is a member of the Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs as well as the Special Committee on Tax Rulings and other Measures of a Similar the nature or impact. In 2012 through 2014 Karas was among the vice-presidents of the European Parliament. In the wake of the elections in 2019 He has been as one of the vice-presidents.
