Los Angeles News Service was first to use AStar helicopters in major cities to cover breaking news and first to broadcast a high-speed chase by police officers. Tur also reported on the attack on Reginald Denny in the 1992 Los Angeles Riots, and the discovery of the crash site for Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 1771. Tur also broadcast O.J. Simpson’s slow-speed chase in June 1994.
Tur’s 23-year marriage to Marika Gerrard came to an end in 2003. The couple had two children: Katy, a news reporter, and James, a medical student.
In August 2006, Tur was cited by Israeli medics for saving the life of an IDF soldier during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict.
